Since 1992, Taj Mahotsav has been organised in Agra every year bringing a large number of domestic and foreign tourists to the city and offering them an insight into the cultural vibrancy of India. The 10 day-long carnival, lasting from 20th February to 1st March, gathers Indian artists, folk musicians, dramatists and craftsmen from different regions of the country and provides them a platform to showcase their talents on a common stage. Theme of Taj Mahotsav 2023:
For each edition, the festival has a different theme or message associated with it that forms the base of all its cultural performances. Mostly, these themes are related to the heritage of India and how to preserve it for future generations. For instance, the last year’s edition of the event was based on the theme ‘Parampara’, meaning ‘tradition’ in English and exhibited many attractive traditional crafts by 400+ craftsmen from across the country. Adding to the highlights of the festival were diverse cuisine and the cream of Indian musicians and soul-stirring performances by well-renowned folk artists.
Organised by UP Tourism, the grand celebration that is Taj Mahotsav has brought around five million people to Agra’s Shilpgram – located 500 m from the eastern gate of Taj Mahal – last year alone, and this number will definitely go up this year with an exciting mix of cultural activities and fun fair at the event.
